Who I Am

I’m Hannah Reed, and I’ve started this blog to share my love of interior design, antique hunting and decluttering. I’m an introverted home lover who uses my home to express myself, creating what I hope is a warm, welcoming space.

I live in West Sussex in the UK with my husband, son and enormous cat, renting a small terraced cottage in town. I’ve been interested in my own space every since I was old enough to be aware of my own bedroom, moving on into my various student rooms and then our rented home as a family. I have quite intense social anxiety, and the classic introvert trope of needing to recharge in a quiet, calming space. My home is something of a sacred space for me, and whilst I don’t follow white-box-minimalism, I do consider myself a soft minimalist, with an aversion to clutter and busy views. I’m lucky enough to have featured in a beautiful book about the subject, blogger Abi Dare’s book The Soft Minimalist Home – calm, cozy decor for real lives and spaces, which you can order here.

My background is in History of Art, I’m a trained oil painting restorer and conservator (I met my husband on the course) and have a doctorate in the material science of 16th century Northern European portraiture, hence my love of antiques and bringing in old pieces to compliment the modern home. This is my real passion, so if you have anything you’d like me to write about or even source, get in touch on undertheeavesblog@gmail.com.

Here you’ll find home design advice, tips on finding characterful antique furniture and artworks, and interiors book reviews all with the object of making your home feel like your sanctuary from the world.
