Hotel Focus - The Yard in Bath
Christmas is packed away, the out-of-office has been turned off, and a few half-hearted resolutions scribbled in my diary, but what I most want to start the new year in this sleepy Midwinter season, is a night away in a tasteful hotel for a bit of post-holiday recovery.
Back in October, I travelled to Bath for the book launch of The Soft Minimalist Home, and on author Abi Dare’s recommendation decided to treat myself to a night at The Yard. Included in the Michelin guide and a frequent feature of any “top hotel” lists, The Yard, previously a coaching inn, is a boutique hotel in the centre of the city. They have fifteen beautifully designed rooms set around a historic courtyard (hence the name), very attentive staff, and a nice little bar so that you can treat yourself to a cocktail and some of their delicious snacks before you head out, or to bed.
My room was a street-facing Cosy King on the ground floor, but perfectly peaceful and quiet. The smallest room in the repertoire, it still felt spacious whilst featuring a squashy King size bed, an en-suite shower with Bramley toiletries, and of course the true mark of a quality hotel - a Roberts radio. The wallpaper and furniture was muted but characterful, and it felt like a perfect retreat after a busy day and evening in town.
The best feature of The Yard in Bath, is breakfast. When I arrived I noticed my door had a breakfast hook, something which I plan on adding to my bedroom, and at 8am the following morning, a little basket was stealthily hung. I will let the pictures do the talking here, but I can tell you that eating that breakfast whilst listening to the radio with my feet buried in the lovely comfy bed was one of the best moments of the year.
